Hangs up

Works for a while…. then I have to go to the App store and reload. Something has changed. Very frustrating… Lost all my tags; highlights and everything else.

Best LDS Scripture App

This is very similar to the iPhone/iPad LDS Scripture App, and is a great offline study companion!

LDS Scriptures App for Mac

Pros: * Clean interface * Syncs with my iPod Touchs LDS Scriptures Cons: * The lowest tabs on the side (the icons in the black area) are difficult to access on a MacBooks screen * Can be a bit slow at times With a little tweaking, it will be a great app.

This is good

Although I had a rough start with the program. The creators were incredibly helpful and insist on making sure that their users get the best out of their program. The features really are nice and make referencing... well, awesome. I recommend this program.

Excellent Update!

Great job! Love the update... It was only a week or so ago that I emailed the developer about the issue with notes closing out and then I had offered a suggestion to handle notes like they have the Journal portion in the app and presto.... The update today shows and reflects that request. This is by far the best scripture app I have ever used. Intuitive and easy to use, take notes and study with ease. Thank you! Wonderful job!!

This version average, but has potential.

Ive been using this app since it was first introduced as one of the very first 3rd party applications available only on jailbroken phones. Ive loved the progress with this app and always look forward to bug fixes and updates. This desktop app is very lacking, especially since I already paid $15 for my iPhone app, another $15 for my iPad and now $20 for this. The desktop version needs a lot of work because you cannot simply port over what you have used on touch devices. The first thing I did was highlight. Then I tried to unhighlight, but that was virtually impossible (you have to click on the left side, then navigate to the thing you accidentally highlighted, then right click on it). I have not yet tried the syncing features, but if history serves me, they will be okay, but slow. I imagine this feature is coming, but it needs a full screen mode now that Lion OSX is out. Also, the new tab icon is clear on the other side of the screen. This makes very little sense to me as when I need a new tab, the first thing Im going to do is go back to the Library. In a touch screen, this is not a problem, but quite annoying with this app. I would like a link in "My Content" to link me directly with the address that allows me to download my own content. Where in the world is the settings icon? I cant for the life of me figure out how to organize the icons to my preference (like in the mobile apps). I love all the referencing features. Always have. And I absolutely love having all the content in one place.

No cut and paste!

Maybe its just me, but I tried to cut and paste for a lesson and there is not option for this. What gives? Then I gave in and just printed the definition I wanted and it was in 4 font. I needed a magnifying glass to read it. When I fumbled around with the print options, I could not increase the font size. These are basic functions and neither were available. Really? I just got this app and found these issues right away. What else am I going to run into?

Not Updated

General Conference hasnt been updated. How are you going you compete with other apps if you cant even keep up with updating General Conference twice a year? Very dissapointed.

copy and paste works, not consistent

the copy and paste function is not friendly. when pasting, it included all the formatting of the text in one passage. this should be invisible to me as the user. i am using time to fix problems that are unacceptable.

An iPad app quickly ported to Mac. Also, Beachballin.

**Had to lower my review to 1 star because the app would just freeze up on me several times in one session. I was preparing a Sunday School lesson and had 4 tabs open and this app could not handle even scrolling the text or changing tabs without freezing up completely. I had to Force Quit and restart and then reopen all the previous tabs. Considering the developers have abandoned this app (no updates in > 6 months), the freezing up will never get better. A complete waste of money.** Definitely feels like a quick port from iPad to Mac. I cant find any way to add content to the "My Content" section (it might be there but it certainly isnt obvious), Copy and Paste can be done via the usual keyboard shortcut, but not via right-click, they dont make use of the menubar at the top of the screen for anything (Preferences would be nice), printing leaves much to be desired, I cant change the font size of the menu items (way to big) or remove the text under the icons, journal entry interface is pretty pathetic… Pretty much a cash-in. And it hasnt been updated for months, either, so I dont expect them to invest anything new into this app. Update: In order to add your profile pic or add content you need to go to a website, add that content online, then download the content back to your computer!? And the types of content you can add are extremely limited. I was hoping to add scans of sacrament meeting programs and other things just to collect all of my religious content in one place. I guess I will have to find a separate app for decent journal writing and document collection.

You CAN copy text

Someone left a comment below stating that you cannot highlight, copy, and paste text from the application. That is incorrect… you CAN copy and paste text. Heres how you do it. Highlight the text you want to copy that you desire to paste into another document (the talk you are writing, the journal entry, the scripture study notes, the letter to your love, or whatever). Once it is highlighted, hit COMMAND and C at the same time (on a MAC). Then go into your other application into which you want to paste the text and hit COMMAND and V at the same time. There you have it folks. Have fun with it. Nathan Nelson

Great App, Fast Customer Service!

Wow! I wrote an email to the app support about verses in my tags disappearing. Twenty minutes later, I received a reply. They asked specific questions about the tags, and I gave them the information. An hour later, I received another email. The problem was solved. I use this app on my laptop, my iPad, and iPhone. I use it all the time - I love the fact that it syncs between devices. I cant say enough about the customer service. The price tag may seem high at first blush, but the app is continually updated, and the support team will take good care of you. Download the app!

very nice app

This is a really nice scripture app. I didnt realize it had audio as well! In addition to the various manuals, its got all the general conferences going back to 97, I really like the tags, notes and journal features… In addition to footnotes, it has little citation links by the verses in the scriptures. So you can click on a citation link, and see the talks and references where that verse has been quoted, and read what prophets have said about it. Very impressed!

not apple friendly

only way to delete items is "right click it" . I never used a pc. what does that mean. Keep getting new era & Friend mags. im single. i have tried to reset the auto down load & nothing happens. They have responded very quickly. Things are going right .

Not Retina Ready

This is a great app, but it looks terrible on the retina display. Please update app!

Amazing.

This is easily the best Gospel study resource in the universe. Tagging verses, multicolor highlighting, notes on individual verses, personal journal, AND audio for every chapter! Oh and every verse contains links to every recorded General Conference talk that quotes that verse. This seriously enhances my scripture studying experience and I would recommend it to anyone & everyone. Keep up the good work!

It was a great app until recently.

Ive used this app for a couple of years. Having the scriptures (markings, notes, tags) resident on my laptop rather than having to synchronize with Church servers every time I make a change, is such an advantage and makes this more valuable to me than the Churchs version. I also like the fact that you can see tags and notes listed right in the scriptures. I know at a glance whether Ive already tagged the scripture and with what tag. Its also great to have what I study on my laptop synch to my iPhone. Carrying around the standard works in print form is cumbersome and sometimes impractical. Having my marked scriptures on my iPhone and studying using my MacBook is ideal. Checking cross references is quick. Finding a scripture via a phrase or by looking at a tag list helps tremendously. Ive been very pleased with the responsiveness of the developers, when Ive had problems synching--until recently. Something happened on the developers server and now all of my tags, notes, and scripture markings are gone from my MacBook app. Sent a plea for help. No response and its been several weeks. I suspect these guys are just tired of trying to stay up with the bugs.

A great app BUT . . .

Generally, LDS Scriptures is a great app that I have used for several years (first on my IPhone 3GS and more recently on my IPhone 4S). I recently purchased the $20 app for my new MacBook Air (which, as most of you know, is pretty pricing for an app). I spent the $$ because I have really liked the program on my IPhone (finding it superior to the free on-line scriptures available from the Church) and wanted the same for my new laptop. I was especially excited about their advertised ability to sync between different devices so that elements, such as "tags" could be entered on one device and applied to all. Well, I am sure there is a way to sync between the two, but it is NOT intuitive enough, nor are their support/user guide instructions well enough written, for a 60 year old retired fire chief who is NOT tech savy to be able to figure it out. I have sent their support people an e-mail explaining my problem and asking for help and so well see how responsive they are. In the meanwhile, if it werent for the difficulty of syncing (and the lack of intuitive design between devices) I would have rated this product five stars out of five. Theyre close, but theyre just not there yet. Though a fire chief by profession, my undergraduate degree was in journalism. Part of that degree program were a number of course on technical writing (the branch of journalism for folks that want to become tech manual writers for software and other technology developers. One of the reasons for specific courses on how to become a good tech writer is that they teach you how to write so that someone not at your level of tech savy and not already familiar with your product can still understand what the heck youre trying to explain in specific, easy to understand, lay terms. LDS Scriptures would benefit from hiring a good, well-trained tech writer. My guess from my own experience and those of some of the other people who have reviewed their product is that they do not have a professionally trained technical writer on staff, but instead have software engineers/developers writing there own user guides and therein lies the source of their biggest criticisms.

Stopped working

Love the app. It is well built, the only problem is that it suddenly wont open up… Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing. Please fix this. I would highly recommend the app to anyone, if it worked!

Not worth money

This app is definitly not worth money, let alone $20. Sure it does what it says itll do, but it also fails to launch properly. Ive used this app twice. Every other time ive tried to open this app it fails completly, crashes repeatedly. Supports solution is to reinstall. If i need to reinstall an app every time i want to use it i might as well use a web app. Hold your money till the Church releases its own Gospel Library app, cause this one isnt worth the time, effort, or money.
